Famous Filipino Dish

 


Adobong Manok is one of the most iconic Filipino dishes — simple to cook, yet bursting with flavor. With its rich mix of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and spices, it's a dish that brings families together around the dinner table. Whether you're new to Filipino cuisine or craving a classic from home, this recipe will satisfy your soul.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg chicken (cut into serving pieces)

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce

  • 1/3 cup vinegar

  • 1 cup water

  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed

  • 2–3 bay leaves

  • 1 tsp whole black peppercorns

  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)

  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Marinate chicken in soy sauce, garlic, and pepper (30 mins or overnight).

  2. Sauté garlic in oil until golden.

  3. Add chicken, pan-fry until lightly browned.

  4. Add marinade, vinegar, bay leaves, water. Bring to boil (no stirring yet!).

  5. Simmer 30–40 minutes until chicken is tender and sauce reduces.

  6. Add sugar and salt to taste.

  7. Serve with rice. Enjoy!

Tips & Variations:

  • Add boiled eggs or potatoes for extra flavor and texture.

  • Let it simmer uncovered to thicken the sauce.
